SERI DR. TEH HONG PIOW
Tan Sri Dato 'Seri Dr. Piow
is one of the richest people in Malaysia. He is the founder and Chairman of
Public Bank Berhad, known as one of the banks that are most successful in
Malaysia with other countries in the region.
Teh
was born in Singapore in 1930 where he studied at the Anglo-Chinese School
there where together with his wife, Puan Sri Tay Sock Noy, they are blessed
with three daughters and a son. The success of today is the result of hard work
and diligence in which he worked and moved way up the corporate ladder in the
banking industry.
He
started with the Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) when he was a bank
clerk. Talent and hard work earned him a promotion where within 5 years he
became an officer of the bank before moving on to better opportunities with
Malayan Banking Berhad as manager. At the age of 34 years, he was promoted to
General Manager made him one of the young manager. He would then leave Malayan
Banking to start his own company and it is when Public Bank was born.
He
is the fifth richest man in Malaysia, where his story of rags-to-riches remains
one of the most popular stories told and he remains one of the most prominent
people in Malaysia today. His success and the richest but has created a lot of
envious eyes where the celebration the 45th anniversary recently been mocked
and ridiculed by some leaders in which he equated and compared with Kim Jong-il,

be too concerned as he remains a part of some Malaysians can be proud of his
